Our Board of Directors is a volunteer working & fundraising board. All organizational operations and supervision of committees is conducted by the Board. Board members are encouraged to contribute financially to the organization, provide insight into organizational strategic planning, and act as an ambassador of The Alexander Foundation.

Board Expectations

  • Term of Office : The term of each director will be 2 years OR a minimum of one year plus the time needed to identify a successor and fully transition them into the role.
  • Program Responsibility : Each director is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of their program or organization area outlined in their position job description. This may include supervision of a program committee, oversight of program budget, and quality improvement.
  • Board Meetings : The Board of Directors meets for up to 2 hours a month on the 4th Thursday of the month. Attendance in person is preferred, but accommodations can be made for phone/video attendance.
  • Financial Contribution : Each member of the Board of Directors is strongly encouraged to make a financial contribution of any size to the organization each fiscal year.

Director Descriptions
DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR: This person will spearhead development efforts as The Alexander Foundation continues to grow. The Development Director will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Director, Events Director, and the rest of the Board of Directors to develop fundraising goals, strategy, and increase annual foundation revenue.

VOLUNTEER & OUTREACH DIRECTOR (Vacant on 10/1): This person will help The Alexander Foundation recruit and onboard volunteers and pursue new partnership opportunities. They will work closely with other Directors to find volunteers for committees, events, and other Board positions. They will perform outreach with other LGBTQ+ serving organizations to increase the The Alexander Foundation's visibility and impact. Projects may include developing board and volunteer on-boarding & training, developing outreach plan, etc.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR: This person will manage The Alexander Foundation's communications platforms and marketing campaigns. Using digital marketing, supplemented with occasional print materials, they will work with the Development and Events Directors to market fundraising and community engagement events. They are responsible for the organization's website and for supporting a committee of marketing and communications volunteers.

SCHOLARSHIP DIRECTOR: This person will lead The Alexander Foundation's scholarship programs, a mostly-seasonal program. They communicate with academic institutions, applicants, and an engaged Scholarship Committee. They will give direction to the Committee, who ultimately determine which applicants receive funds.

ASSISTANCE DIRECTOR: This person will lead The Alexander Foundation's assistance programs, serving vulnerable LGBTQ+ Coloradans. They regularly communicate with partner organizations, the Treasurer, and the Assistance Committee to ensure payments are processing. They give direction to the Assistance Committee, who ultimately determine which applicants receive funds.

EVENTS DIRECTOR: This person will coordinate the planning of The Alexander Foundation's fundraising and community engagement events. Working closely with the Development Director and Marketing & Communications Director, they will ensure events support fundraising and outreach goals. This person will identify potential event collaborations and supervises a volunteer Events Committee.
