The Holiday Grant program provides grants to gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered people on a onetime basis during the traditional holiday season. The program is designed to assist individuals with significant chronic problems. Applications are received from potential recipients and from these requests a random sample is selected, pseudonyms assigned, and a direct solicitation to the community is made during November and December. Although many recipients deal with HIV issues, this is not just an HIV related program. For example this program has helped:

• a paralyzed man purchase a specially equipped computer
• car repairs so a rural resident could travel to receive medical treatments
• a women dealing with the effects of cancer
• a man left homeless by a devastating fire

The amount of the grant is based on need and the financial support and response from the community but can range generally from $100 to $500.

The recipient must be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered and demonstrate financial need. This program is for HIV and non-HIV persons. A certification from a representative of the referring agency must accompany the application.

As with all Alexander Foundation programs all applicants must work through an approved referring agency or source. Applications must be received by the stated deadline date, which is usually in November. "Thank you Alexander Foundation from the bottom of my heart. The $500 you sent was greatly appreciated. I started my rehab at Denver General Davis Pavilion geared toward recuperating from the extensive nerve damage I suffered in a car crash 2 months ago. With this therapy and some equipment I was able to buy I should be back on my feet and working in a few months."
